I practice yoga because of it's infinite lessons, they help me to cope with what life throws up, to live more presently and avoid overlooking the minutia. The physical benefits are just the silver lining...
I grew up moving around a lot jumping between Norway, Holland, America, Scotland and England with my globe-trotting parents (Anglo Indian mother - of French & Portuguese decent - and an Irish German American father). Whilst I never felt like I belonged anywhere, I also never felt like I didn't. I loved trying new things and when my mother invited me to her yoga class when I was 14, I went. I DID NOT LIKE IT, but I've had a relationship with it ever since, which changes regularly pending the season, my mood, or my 'inner' season. When life became challenging, I ended up on my yoga mat. It only made sense for this to be my constant, so I embarked on a new journey to be a teacher in 2014 and I have not looked back...
I am a qualified Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher 500hr (ERYT-500hrs) with Yoga Alliance Professionals but have tallied over 750hrs of training. My mind blowing teachers include Sarah Ramsden, the amazing woman who taught Ryan Giggs how to use yoga to improve his sports performance and ultimately lengthened his career in premiership football. I am indebted to my teacher Jason Crandell who shared his infinite knowledge and has been described as the yogi taking yoga to its next level, who taught me the concept of working yoga into the body rather than the body into yoga. In 2018 I undertook the most life transforming experience training with the Janis Joplin of the yoga world, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, who has shared her infinite knowledge of Well Woman Yoga - a movement guiding us to use yoga to embrace women's health and vital energy throughout their life, I loved it so much I repeated this in 2019! I'm deeply grateful to all my teachers - for sharing their infinite wisdom and experiences and hope I honour their practices when I teach.
I teach in our beautiful garden studio (11 people max) at my home in New Malden and have the pleasure of meeting people in the community all the time. I love my clients and feel such gratitude towards them for trusting me with their practice.
Yoga with Anna has been incredible journey for me, l've hosted yoga retreats all over including Portugal, Corfu, Zanzibar, and I've led family glamping retreats in the Surrey hills, I teach staff at Fulham Football Club and have worked with high school students. I completed my Advance Teacher Training and built a bigger studio to accommodate the growing yoga community to which I'm indebted to for trusting me to join them on their yoga journey. I'm not one for one size fits all and aim to teach mindfully to help YOU find a suitable balance between feeling centred. energised and capable.
My most favourite thing in the world is my family. I have three beautiful & talented daughters and a gorgeous husband who is my retreat chef (and Bella the dog who does the best downward dog, Pippa the hedgehog and Lisabeth the lizzard). They love yoga (having little choice in the matter) so you may see them in class from time to time. I have them to thank for being able to teach yoga in our home and I'm indebted for their continued support.
If I had to explain why I have practised for over 20 years I'd say I have one of those minds that thinks about a million things before I do anything... Yoga helps me win some peace and quiet.
