Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. The word "Ayurveda" comes from the Sanskrit words "Ayur" (life) and "Veda" (knowledge or science), meaning "the science of life."
Ayurveda focuses on balancing the mind, body, and spirit to promote health and well-being. It emphasises the interconnectedness of these aspects and aims to maintain harmony within the body, as well as with nature.

THE CORE PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA
THE FIVE ELEMENTSAyurveda is based on the belief that everything in the universe, including the human body, is made up of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether (space).
These elements combine in the body to form three primary energies or doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. |
THE DOSHASThese three doshas represent different combinations of the elements and are thought to govern the physical and mental processes of the body:

AYURVEDIC PRACTICES FOR HEALTH
LIFESTYLE & DIETAyurveda places a strong emphasis on personalised diet and lifestyle practices tailored to one's dosha and current health condition.
This includes food choices, exercise, sleep, meditation, and stress management techniques. |
PREVENTION & LONGEVITYAyurveda is not just about treating illness but is also focused on prevention and living in harmony with natural cycles to promote longevity, vitality, and mental clarity.

HERBS & TREATMENTS
While Ayurveda often uses herbal remedies, its approach is holistic, aiming to treat the root causes of illness, rather than just symptoms.
Other Ayurvedic practices include oil massages, detoxification methods (like Panchakarma), yoga, and breathing techniques (pranayama).
