What is Ayurveda?
"When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need." – Ayurvedic Proverb
Ayurveda is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the body's three fundamental energies, or "doshas": Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha represents a combination of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space—and has specific qualities and functions in the body. Understanding your unique dosha composition helps tailor lifestyle, diet, and treatment plans to maintain or restore balance.
Vata (Air and Space): Vata governs movement and is responsible for activities such as breathing, circulation, and nerve impulses. It is characterized by qualities like dryness, lightness, and coolness. An imbalance in Vata may lead to issues such as anxiety, dryness, or irregular digestion.
Pitta (Fire and Water): Pitta regulates metabolism, digestion, and energy production. It is associated with qualities like heat, intensity, and fluidity. When Pitta is out of balance, it can result in problems like inflammation, irritability, or digestive disturbances.
Kapha (Earth and Water): Kapha provides structure and stability, governing growth, lubrication, and immune functions. It is characterized by heaviness, solidity, and moisture. An imbalance in Kapha can manifest as lethargy, weight gain, or congestion.
Ayurvedic practice involves personalised recommendations based on an individual's dosha balance, including diet, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle adjustments. The goal is to create equilibrium within the body and mind to promote overall health, prevent illness, and achieve a state of well-being.
Ayurveda's holistic approach encourages living in harmony with natural rhythms and the environment, making it not just a system of medicine but a way of life that fosters balance and wellness in every aspect of existence.

Ayurveda's Relationship with Yoga:
Ayurveda and yoga are deeply intertwined, as both originate from the same ancient Indian traditions and share a common goal: achieving balance and harmony within the individual. While Ayurveda provides a framework for understanding and maintaining physical and mental health through dosha balance, yoga offers practical tools and techniques to support this balance through physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation.
AYURVEDA...
Provides guidelines for diet, lifestyle, and herbal remedies based on one's dosha. It offers profound insights into optimising health by aligning daily habits with your unique constitution and the natural rhythms of the environment |
YOGA...
...offers physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation practices that promote physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability, fostering a profound sense of inner peace and resilience |
Ayurveda and yoga together provide a holistic approach to health, offering a rich combination of theoretical understanding and practical application. By incorporating both into your lifestyle, you can cultivate a deeper sense of balance, health, and harmony in your life.
FOOD
Wholesome delicious food has long been a focus of all of my retreats. My chefs provide sumptuous meals using local ingredients, when possible, to support our retreat programme.
During this retreat you will experience the incredible effects of the Ayurvedic wholesome cuisine. It is full of fresh fruit & vegetables, spices and herbs and organic pulses. It is completely free from processed foods & sugar. Food combinations are also important with Ayurvedic cuisine and are carefully selected to ensure optimum digestion.
We offer 3 meals a day, the Ayurvedic way - a light breakfast, a hearty warm lunch, and a light warm dinner. This routine not only optimises your digestion, but has a profound effect on the quality of your sleep. You will learn more about this in the Lifestyle workshop on this retreat.
Staying hydrated is also key in Ayurveda, and we'll be supporting you to do so. Warm drinks are available throughout your stay, while caffeine is not recommended, it will be available.
Ayurveda does not exclude meat from it's cuisine, but it will be easier for the body to manage our programme on a vegetarian menu.

Your Host: Anna
Hi, I’m Anna, and I’m truly excited to support you on your journey to optimal health. My family are from Southern India, and I was immersed in a world of ancient remedies, aromatherapy, and traditional practices from a young age. These experiences laid the foundation for my deep appreciation of holistic wellness.
My journey into Ayurveda began through my extensive practice of yoga. As I delved into Ayurvedic literature, I realized that many of the practices I grew up with were rooted in these ancient traditions. My studies at the School of Ayurveda UK as an Ayurvedic practitioner have enriched my understanding, and incorporating an Ayurvedic lifestyle has profoundly enhanced my own life as well as my family's.
With a decade of experience teaching yoga and organizing workshops and retreats, I’ve developed a keen sense of what makes a retreat truly transformative. Now, I’m thrilled to blend my expertise in yoga with Ayurvedic principles to create retreats that offer deeper benefits and more impactful outcomes. I look forward to helping you achieve a renewed sense of improved health and energy through these curated experiences.
